habu woes
So, after experimenting with patterns, choosing the yarn, knitting a swatch and finding the loveliest shell buttons, the baby raglan has unexpectedly come to a standstill. Not just because there hasn't been much knitting around here lately. And not because the components aren't as perfect as I imagined, because they are. The double-stranded grey cashmere and charcoal merino is incredibly soft, light + textural. It looks lovely when paired with the beautifully imperfect shell buttons. So why is this perfect little sweater refusing to be knit? The answer is in the yarn, the habu yarn to be exact. Every couple of rows the cashmere strand breaks, most of the time right in the middle of the row. Maintaining an even tension has always come very easily to me, and with the delicate nature of this yarn I have been even more aware of this. But no matter which needles I use or how loosely I knit, the yarn still breaks. Strangely enough, this didn't happen when I knit the test swatch. Yes, I could keep knitting, expecting the yarn to break every so often. But the yarn is so fine and the stitches are so small that the yarn would have to be rejoined every 1cm, leaving hundreds of ends to be sewn in...
other progress :: the simple quilt is still being quilted :: the denyse schmidt 'what a bunch of squares' quilt is awaiting more cream fabric for the border :: the 'hourglass sweater' has been postponed due to unforseen circumstances [despite how much I *love* knitting this sweater and the yarn...I really *love* the yarn...so soft, so grey, so perfect]
Hmmm. Doesn't seem like I'm having much luck in the finished object department, does it? Well, I am making something else at the moment, but it can't be revealed just yet. And I have a feeling that although I still have lots more to do, it will turn out perfectly and just as I imagined it. Apologies for the lack of modesty there, forgive me! I'll explain very soon...
